What is Bestiarum?

Bestiarum is the largest fetish feast in the Balkans. Launched for the first time on 2nd of June 2012, it continues with the fetish club formula containing circus, burlesque and body art performances, progressive music, provocative movies, exhibitions, installations and interaction with and between the audiences.

Why Bestiarum?

Bestiarum derives its name from the Latin phrase for bestiary or bestiarum vocabulum, which is a compendium of beasts, real and imaginary ones. Besides mediaeval books, modern bestiaries come in the form of manuals for fantasy fiction or role-playing video games. The Croatian fetish feast took its name for the celebration of the animalistic, as well as its symbolic meaning of ultimate fantasy where real roles can be played or those imaginary tested out.

Where does it happen?

Our birthplace was an old industrial complex Jedinstvo at the banks of Sava river, at the border between the old and the new section of the City of Zagreb. Former technological giant, the factory that was literally producing – factories, today is the home to the non-mainstream music club Mochvara and the multifunctional venue for independent culture and youth – Pogon. In 2012 and 2013 Bestiarum wass one of the rare events taking over most of the available spaces in this industrial complex.
In 2014 we move the event to Dramatic Club in the very heart of Zagreb. Just next to the Main train station and old-charm Esplanade hotel we conquer three floors of this amazing venue.

Who stands behind Bestiarum?

Bestiarum is organised by Mala performerska scena (shorter Mala prsa – and we won’t translate this, you can use Google translate if really interested), Croatian NGO focused on production, presentation, promotion and education in the fields of contemporary circus, burlesque, sideshow, body art and other performing arts slipping outside of the mainstream. We are mostly known for high quality public events such as Festival novog cirkusa (New Circus Festival), Freaky Friday (sideshow season) and Bestiarum (our fetish-inspired project), however we do host autonomous performing events throughout the year, but also organise artistic residencies, workshops, masterclasses and conferences, build international cooperation projects and manage the Circus Information Archive (C.I.A.) in Zagreb as an always growing documentation centre for circus.

Who is the audience?

Bestiarum attracts a great diversity of audiences which are not easily categorized. Straight, gay or any other sexuality, this is a crowd composed of young clubbers attracted by the fetish lifestyle, true fetish lovers, burlesque and circus fans, fashion enthusiasts, artists and BDSM community. We want to think of Bestiarum as a home of individuals, not as a box for specific (sub)urban groups.

Why the dress code?

The dress code is strictly enforced at Bestiarum events. Usually, the code is set up widely enough to permit the play, fantasy and creativity. It should be rather considered as a starting point for one’s own exploration than our try to codify the crowd. We know not everybody can afford a full body latex suit, but that is no excuse not to comply with the dress code. Some of the best outfits you will see at Bestiarum are homemade! Creativity is highly encouraged! And the more everyone plays, the party gets wilder. Plus, a great outfit may even earn you some free drinks by the impressed Bestiarum staff! So do put some effort in it!

No street wear or casual wear is permitted at the venue. All-black street clothes is not fetish. Combat army uniform itself will NOT justify the military fetish option. Goth is sexy, but it alone will not get you through the entrance. Keep your normal clubwear for a normal club! Bestiarum asks you to include a kinky twist! Use your imagination, put on the dress that turns heads and makeup that cannot go unnoticed, explore your fantasy! Individual concept and sense for transformation is truly supported. Let your erotic imagination and creativity free, and come in the most risque wear you can think of!

If you are not sure about your outfit, feel free to e-mail us in advance ([email protected]).

But I Just want to watch…

Bestiarum is not an event for voyeurs only, please keep that in mind. If you just wanna watch, consider attending some other event where dress code is not enforced! Bestiarum’s dress code is put together for everyone’s pleasure. Please be advised that having a ticket does not guarantee you admission to Bestiarum, unless you adhere to the dress code. The decision of the doorbitch is final!

I cannot walk dressed like that across the city…

Please know that Bestiarum provides a possibility to come and change at the party, leaving your regular clothes and/or suitcase at the cloakroom.

If you prefere preparing at your home, these are the possible taxi services you could use instead of public transport:

Radio Taxi Zagreb (tel. 060/800-800, or 1777)– start 9,90 Kunas, then 4,90 Kunas per km
Taxi Cammeo (tel. 060/7100, or 1212– start 15 Kunas (first two kilometres included), then 6 Kunas per km
Eko Taxi (tel. 060/7777, or 1414)– start 8,80 Kunas, then 5 Kunas per km

Our current venue Dramatic Club is a part of Importanne Centre complex, so if you come by car, you can park it in a garage (only 2 Kunas per hour by night!) and access the club directly from the elevator. Directions are clearly marked, and have in mind that during the night the parking lot is mainly used by Dramatic visitors anyway. So do not fear you will bump into your neighbour doing the late night shopping!

I am 17, but arriving to the party with my adult partner – will I be let in?

Bestiarum is an 18+ event. We reserve the possibility to check your I.D. to determine your age at the entrance. Coming with an adult partner or guardian doesn’t change the fact that you are still a minor.

Can I take photographs at the event?

Use of cameras or camera-phones is not permitted at Bestiarum without an official photo pass. Restriction includes photographing/filming performances, venue, dungeon, other visitors or even oneself. To avoid misunderstandings, please don’t even bring these devices to the event. If caught disobeying this rule, your camera will be confiscated, your pictures erased and you will be asked to leave the party. Now, that is not the pleasant experience for anyone, so please show respect for the rules applied to everyone. Let everybody feel relaxed, this is no place for any tensions of this kind!

We do have our in-house photographers who might capture one’s fabulous outfit, but only with the permission of the subject.

What should i know about the dungeon and dark room?

The dungeon is a special area designated for BDSM play and exploring other fantasies of participants. At our party you will normally find whipping benches, sling, St. Andrew’s cross and similar torture/play equipment. Please use common sense when using them. Agree about the ‘safeword’ beforehand in order to stop the scene when needed (General Bestiarum’s safeword is „safeword“!). If a submissive partner is gagged, so cannot use the safeword, please agree about physical/visual safeword beforehand.

Dark room is usually a separated area of the dungeon without light. When entering the dark room, stay for awhile until your eyes adjust. Please do not use lighters, phones or other light-sources to explore the dark room, as this kills its true definition and might not be approved by other dark room guests. If you do not feel comfortable entering the dark room, feel free to browse through better-lit sections of the dungeon.

When approaching people you might not know, general rule applies: No means no. Play only involves consensual acts. Please be respectful of other guests’ answers. Even if their outfit might suggest they are submissive, it doesn’t mean that they want to submit to – you. Touching anyone without permission or any form of harassment is strictly forbidden! Also, do not enter other people’s scenes unless approved by all included participants! Use common sense.

Please do not move any pieces of equipment without first asking Dungeon Staff. If you are not sure how a certain device is used, feel free to ask for assistance.
